Algebra help that actually makes sense

Algebra is where many students first start feeling like math is just a list of confusing rules. My goal is to slow things down, explain the “why” behind each step, and help students become more accurate and confident.

I provide online algebra tutoring for middle school, high school, college, and adult learners. Sessions are live and one-on-one, so we can work through homework, test review, missed concepts, and practice problems step-by-step.

Based in San Diego, I work with students online across the country.

Algebra tutoring topics

What we can work on

Every student is different, so sessions are tailored to the class, assignment, test, or long-term goal.

Equations & Inequalities

Solving linear equations, multi-step equations, inequalities, absolute value, and checking answers carefully.

Graphing & Functions

Understanding slope, intercepts, function notation, transformations, domain, range, and graph interpretation.

Factoring & Polynomials

Simplifying expressions, multiplying polynomials, factoring trinomials, and recognizing common patterns.

Quadratics

Solving quadratic equations by factoring, graphing, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula.

Word Problems

Translating real-world situations into equations and learning how to set up problems without guessing.

Test Preparation

Reviewing weak areas, practicing common problem types, and building a plan for quizzes, finals, placement tests, SAT math, or GRE quant.

Why students struggle with algebra

Algebra builds on earlier skills, so one missing piece can make the whole class feel harder. A student may understand the current lesson but still struggle because of fractions, negatives, exponents, graphing, or equation setup.

In tutoring, we identify those gaps directly and rebuild the foundation while still keeping up with the current class.

My approach
  • Break problems into clear steps
  • Explain why each step works
  • Practice until the process feels repeatable
  • Connect algebra to future math classes

Do you tutor Algebra 1 and Algebra 2?

Yes. I work with students in pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and college algebra, depending on the student’s class and goals.

Can online algebra tutoring work well?

Yes. Online sessions work especially well for algebra because we can use a shared whiteboard and solve problems together step-by-step in real time.

Can you help before a test?

Yes. We can review the test topics, identify weak areas, work through practice problems, and build a clear plan for what to study.

Do you help students who are behind?

Yes. Many students struggle because earlier topics did not fully stick. We can review missing skills while still keeping up with the current class.
